Under Irish law (Data Protection Act 2018, Section 31) and GDPR Article 8, the digital age of consent in Ireland is 16 years old. All players under 16 require parental or guardian consent before Signal Tennis can process their personal data.

Why Consent Is Required

Signal Tennis provides data-driven coaching analytics for junior tennis players. This involves processing personal data including match statistics, video footage, performance reports, and coaching session records. Because many of our clients are under 16, we require explicit parental consent before processing their data through our coaching platform.

Players aged 16 or over may provide their own consent.

Two Consent Tiers

Signal Tennis offers two levels of consent to give parents control over how their child's data is used:

Declining Enhanced Services does not affect your child's place in the coaching programme or the quality of coaching they receive. It only limits the digital analytics features available through the Portal.

What Data Is Collected

Depending on the consent tier, Signal Tennis may collect and process:

  • Player name, age group, playing hand, backhand type, club affiliation
  • Match statistics (serve percentages, return data, rally analysis, win/loss records)
  • Video recordings of matches and practice sessions
  • Technique analysis images (frame-by-frame stroke mechanics)
  • Performance reports, statistical charts, and coaching session records
  • Tournament results and rankings from public databases

Full details of data collection are in our Privacy Policy.

Parents' Rights

As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:

  • Access your child's data -- request a copy of all personal data held about your child
  • Request erasure -- have your child's personal data deleted from our systems
  • Withdraw consent -- at any time, without affecting your child's place in the coaching programme
  • Modify consent level -- upgrade from Portal Standard to Enhanced Services, or downgrade at any time

To exercise any of these rights, contact kieran@signaltennis.com.

How to Provide Consent

Consent can be provided in two ways:

  • Digital consent (token link): Your coach will send you a secure, unique link by email. Click the link, review the consent details, enter your legal name and email, and submit. The consent is recorded with a timestamp and your IP address for verification.
  • Physical consent form: A signed paper consent form can be provided to your coach directly. Your coach will upload a record of the signed form to the system.

A downloadable PDF version of the consent form will be provided by your coach when your child enrols in the coaching programme.
